Whip

A professional whip that reads obey. The whip is similar to the ones used in circus for elephants - this one was actually made for the Danish circus Benneweis. The work is about human mankind‘s desire to control the nature - in this case wild animals.

Plastic bucket, 4 litres of cold water, door, wood
240 x 135 x 120 cm
Freely based on the saying ‘curiosity kills the cat’, the half-open door invites us to take the handle and open it a bit more in order to look behind it. Attentive viewers, however, first notice the plastic bucket jammed between the frame and the door, just barely standing on one edge. Moving the door at all would cause the bucket to fall and—as the viewers below cannot see—treat them to a cold shower. This humorous installation inevitably recalls the slapstick comedy of the films of Buster Keaton, Charlie Chaplin or Laurel and Hardy, but it is also found in many clown numbers at the circus.
